LBJ Livewire is the community site for the official student group of the University of Texas’s LBj School of Public Affairs. Users have access to a group blog, an events calendar (that any user can edit and that has a private iCal feed attached to it), a wiki and a forum.

While working at EnviroMedia in Austin, I worked on the redesign of Don’t Mess with Texas, the litter prevention campaign that was voted America’s favorite brand. I worked on the initial concepting and site architecture and then developed the resulting family of sites.

Working for the guys at Austin’s Cold Shower Design, I helped get their new site off the ground. They provided Photoshop comps and some basic page layouts, and I did the database work and some frontend development as well.

The award-winning Texas Observer covers state and national politics and culture. I worked a year as the magazine’s Webmaster and completed a significant redesign to bring in more multimedia elements, work to involve readers online and create more connections among the content. The site has a special focus on accessibility concerns.

Based in Texas and the Netherlands, the Vluggen Institute teaches courses in equine osteopathy. I worked on all phases of the site, from an initial concept and site architecture through design and development. The site focuses on their course offerings while giving the institute tools for displaying their expertise in the field. A full-featured administrative backend allows for management of page content, courses, events and users. A student section includes a custom message board system and other features.
